PRAYER

William Blake
Song of Los
Plate 1, Copy E

 PRAYER OF ABANDONMENT

Ellie,

I abandon myself into your hands;
do with me what you will.
Whatever you may do, I thank you:
I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me,
and in all my creatures -
I wish no more than this , Ellie.
Into your hands I commend my soul;
I offer it to you with all the love of
    my heart,
for I love you Ellie,
and so need to give myself,
to surrender myself into your hands,
without reserve,
and with boundless confidence,

For you are my Ellie.

"...listen to the way Jesus says your name, the way he calls you. He says your name as no one has ever said or will ever say your name. He calls you as only He who made you can call you, and he compels you to experience something of the fullness he has implanted in you because you are his image and his likeness."

ISAAC PENINGTON

National Gallery
Illustration by Blake to John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress
Christian with the Shield of Faith Taking Leave of His Companions

From The Double Vision, by Northrop Frye:  "What 'the' truth is, is not available to human beings in spiritual matters: the goal of our spiritual life is God, who is spiritual Other, not a spiritual object, much less a conceptual object. That is why the Gospels keep reminding us how many listen and how few hear: the truth of the gospel kind cannot be demonstrated except through personal example. As the seventeenth-century Quaker Isaac Penington said every truth is substantial in its own place, but all truths are shadows except the last. The language which lifts us clear of the merely plausible and the merely credible is the language of the spirit; the language of the spirit is, Paul tells us, the language of love, and the language of love is the only language that we can be sure is spoken and understood by God." Science Quotes by Isaac Penington

" All truth is a shadow except the last—yet every Truth is true in its kind. It is substance in its own place, though it be but a shadow in another place, (for it is but a shadow from an intenser substance;) and the shadow is a true shadow, as the substance is a true substance."

STUDYING GENEALOGY

Bruton Parish Church
Williamsburg, VA
1683
 From Mark:

Thanks Paul,

When Larry got into his Genealogical pursuits it gave him a new focus
for his intellectual activities. We had started traveling to the Eastern
Shore and Northern Neck and the Tidewater to find records before he
retired. After he retired searching libraries, courthouses and archives
gave a purpose to our travels around the country. I've just been looking
at some of his notebooks from those years. I had forgotten how thorough
he was in recording information from the documents he pursued. The
biggest impression I get is that connections spread out in all
directions making it difficult to untangle the web of information.

It is good to see something he wrote when he was first getting started
and it didn't seem so complex.

Be Safe, ellie
